Here at Jukebox45s we have been hiring some 400 jukeboxes a year for 17 years all over the country. Whilst we don’t keep specific figures for how many of these are for weddings – I would guess at least 50%. That’s at least 3000 weddings we have had the privilege of hiring jukeboxes to.

Our most Popular jukebox and we think the best for a wedding is our Digital Americana Jukebox. With this jukebox you can pick and choose what is loaded and/or add your own music, This can be sent to us ahead of delivery or you can add a usb stick or ipod on the day of hire.

The Digital Americana Jukebox also has the function whereby you can queue up and pause a song ready for playing at any given moment – which is great for a wedding first dance.

Over the years we have seen the popularity of certain artists and bands come and go for that all important wedding first dance. Some have had more staying power than others. For many a year Angels by Robbie Williams was a mainstay, but as we write this in September 2017 Ed Sheeran has probably taken his crown.

As well as what you might call the well known ‘obvious’ first dances we have come across and been educated ourselves as to some real ‘corkers’ and we thought we would share those with you here. We may even start to keep a tally of what comes our way and share this with you for help in choosing yours. So if you have some ideas, please let us know and we will share them here to help others in choosing their wedding first dance.

A few weeks back we had a customer load a song by the Beautiful South that we were previously unaware of . The song is taken from their album Golddiggas, Headnodders and Pholk Songs and is a cover of the classic song sung by John Travolta and Olivia Newton John in the film Grease You’re The One That I Want

In fact the whole album is great with covers ranging from The Ramones to S-Club Seven.

This is a fantastic version and great for a wedding first dance. Have a listen and let us know what you think. Beautiful South – You’re The One That I Want

Want a more classic feel? Then try Buddy Holly – True Love Ways. This is a love song classic from a genius of Rock N Roll. The best version of this song is the one that has a small piece of speech at the start when it was presumably recorded live in the studio.  We presume it’s the sound engineer queuing up the session and saying “Quiet Boys”, This works great for a First Wedding Dance. Have  a listen:

Want something less serious? Then try this. Now we have to declare that we are not sure where this song came from. If it was you – please contact us and let us know if us sharing it here is ok and we will give you some credit. We had this song loaded by a wedding couple many years ago, But now we have come to search for the ‘official version’ we can’t find it so can only presume the wedding couple put it together themselves. Its great and sure to get all your guests up and joining towards the end. We have the song saved as Poochlatz – Cold Turkey – but as I say we can’t find this anywhere on the net. Have a listen and let us know what you think:

Now here’s a potential first dance for all you Rockers and from an unexpected quarter. The following music is by the legendary Black Sabbath. Its a beautiful piece of music. Its an instrumental too – so if you want to get away from sentimentality this might be for you. The song is called Fluff which in comparison to the rest of their catalogue of iconic Heavy Metal Anthems – is probably a fair assessment. Ladies – you may even be able to persuade your reluctant groom to have a first dance when he knows the song is being provided by one of the biggest, loudest and demonic bands of all time. Have a listen and let us know what you think:

A song that couldn’t be more appropriate for a 1st Wedding Dance Song is another cover. Its by Peter Gabriel and is a cover of a song by The Magnetic Fields.

Their version is great and can be heard here – but there is something very powerful about the Peter Gabriel version. The end line of ‘You Should Give Me Wedding Rings’ makes it just great for a 1st dance wedding song idea. Have a listen and let us know what you think:

So there you have it a few wedding song first dance ideas. Now we know there are hundreds if not thousands of other songs that could have just as easily made this list and we would like to hear of your suggestions.

Minnie Riperton – Loving You
